Each iGEM or Registry user should have an account on the system.
I have a problem
- I forgot my username, or don't know if I have an account?
- I know my username, but forgot my password.
Why are these accounts so complicated?
Most Internet sites let you create an account very easily: 1. make up a username and password, 2. you're done. On the other hand sites that deal with payments are anchored in the credit card authentication industry. We are in between. These sites are professional synthetic biology and education sites. We are supporting a long-term relationship with the members of the user community. We want to recognize your contributions and celebrate your successes. At one time you may be a member of an iGEM team and may attend a Jamboree. At other times, you may be part of an academic lab. Most of our sites are open to viewing by anyone, even those without an account. Other sections (like those containing email addresses) are visible only to site members.
We also support change control for parts base on lab or team membership. We have even had serious requests for private regions of our site where a lab may work in private until its results are published.
For these reasons, we ask the users of these sites to maintain a professional persona on the site.
